It is now ascertained that George North left by thfl San Francisco steamer, taking with him the £4000 subscribed for his sweep on tbe Wellington Cixp, and so rue hundreds on account of another sWeep on the Canterbury Cup. He had privately disposed of most of bis property here. At a meeting of hit creditors to-day it was resolved to take legal advice regarding the position of affairs. Christchuhcu, Monday. In the Supreme Court this morning Walter Pringle Gibson was charged with the murder of William Kerrison, Mr Holmes applied for a postponement of the trial till next session as the plea for the d«fenco would bo insanity, to entablish which be would require a month to collect evidence. I Diitanee three miles, Native Cat giving five seconds start. Tho first deposit of £50 a side has been paid.
