WANGANUf V. NELSON. (From our own correspondent.) Wangajcui, Monday 10 30 a.m. The south-westerly wind still continues,! but it is hoped that it will noon drop. Tbe team have scarcely recovered from the effects of the acaßickocii which they experienced in coming over, but thoy are determined to win if posiible. Broughton plays for Wanganui instead of McGregor, who is unable to play owing to the athletic sporti, in which he competes. Tha match will commence at aleven o'clock. fi'23 p.m. Tbe match commenced this morning on tbe Wanganui race course. Tho waather was fine overhead, but a strong breeze was I blowing, which made cricket uncomfortable. Wanganui went first to the wickets, Burns 1 and Fowler bowling for Nelson. The bowling was very straight and effective, and being backed Op by close and sharp fielding, runs were not easily obtainable. Croii, Lacey, and Parrington showed ia best form, but they could notinsßter the bowling, and the innings closed for 36. Nelton then wtnt in, Firth and Bftimain first talcing the bat. Parrington and Broughton started bowling, and although it was very straight the bafsmen showed good defence. Balmain was splendidly caught and bowled by Broughton. ;Halliday was run out, and H. Boddington then joined Firth, and thoy made a good stand, And runs cam© apace. The howling was changed several times, but with little effect. Firth had made 10 when a shooter from Parrington lowered his stumps. Fowler became Boddiuyton's partner, and another stand was made until Boddington was finally bowled by Fulton for 18. The remaining wickets speedily fell, the total reaching 80. Wanganui commenced their second innings with Barton and Lacoy at the wickets. The following are the kelson scores in the first inninga:— Firth 10 Balmain 8 Halliday 8 Fowler 12 11. Boddington 18 Naylor , o Greenfield -4 E. Boddington ... 7 Burns 1 Wigzell, net out 3 Holmes O Extras 9 Total 80 Tuesday. The cricket match was to hate been resumed this morning" at 10*30, bat it commenced to rain heavily about 9 o'clock, and looks very like continuing all day. The team leaves for Wellington at 6*30 this evening. 5 p.m. The cricket match, Nelson v. Wangarui, was finished to-day. Rain prevented any play till noon, when the two not out men for Wanganui continued their second innings. ltunß came freely for a time, and Fulton made 21 and Barton 26 j the remainder of the i team did nothing, the score being G5 1 Tbi» left Nelson 21 to get to win, which they | obtained for the loss of one wicket.
