DISTRICT PRIZE FIRING.

The firing for the ! district prizes took place yesterday. 0 vying to the scores not being procurable until four o'clock ia the afternoon we were unable to publish the results earlier. The distances were 200, 400, and 500 yards; five rounds at each range; and there were in all 57 competitors. The Waimea Rifles having only muzzle loading Enfields did not compete with the others, but were to fire for the share allotted to them yesterday. The following are the prize winners:— Prize. Points.

The H Battery of Artillery also fired o» Saturday, three rounds of shot and three of shell at a target, the distance of which was unknown, hut. was found to be about 1125 yards. The shooting was very good, and the following were declared to be the results: — 1. No. 1 Detachment (Sergeant Bird), 12---pounder Armstrong — 10 points. 2. No. 3 Detachment (Sergeant Hood), 6pounder Armstrong — 7 points. 3. No. 2 Detachment (Sergeant Haase), 12---pounder Armstrong- -5 points.
