CiiRisTCHTjRCir, Tuesday. The weather was lovely for the races, and there was a large attendance. The following are the results of the day's events : — Free Handicap. Mr Walters' Billingsgate 1 Mr Goodman's York ... ... 2 Hon. W. Robinson's Natator ... 3 Lara, Talent, Bogardus, Adamant, Laertes, Holdernesse, Mischief, and Levant also ran. From the start, Billingsgate showed well to the front, though at one time York looked like winning, and the run in produced immense excitement, Billingsgate catching the judge's eye by a neck, Natator making a fair third. The Derby Stakes.— A sweepstakes of 20 sovs. each, with 250 sovs. added, for three-year-olds. Colts, Bst 10lb ; fillies, Bst slb. Second horse to save his stake. One mile and a balf. Closed with 39 subs. Hon R. Campbell's Sir Modred ... 1 Mr W. C. Webb's Virginia Water ... 2 Mr W. S. Moorhouse's Badsworth ... 3 The Governor, Lure, and Nautilus also started. At the three-quarters distance, Badsworth went to the front, Lure being now second, Sir Modred and Virginia Water running neck and neck in the third place, Nautilus last. Entering the straight, Badsworth, Lure, and Sir Modred ran in the order named, but the blue and silver was now running up fast, and speedily turned the tables, and, well and easily ridden, Sir Modred was landed the winner by a length, Badsworth being a bad third. Time, 2mins: 43secs. The Canterbury Jocket Club Handicap. — A sweepstakes of 20 sovs. each, with 500 sovs, added. Second horse to receive 50 sovs. from the stake ; third horso to save his stake. Two miles. Mr G. Frazer's Le Loup ... l Mr Walters' Piscatonus ... 2 Hon. W. Robinson's Foul Play ... 3 Hornby, Betrayer, Kosciusko, Marie Antoinette, Luna, Sir George, and Miss Domett also lan. Betting 5 to 2 on the field. Foul Play took the lead when the flag fell, Mr Stead's two lying last. Passing the Stand the order of going was, Sir George, Luna, and Betrayer, with Kosciusko lust,, und on the far side of the course Betrayer was going up. The order now was, Luna, Sir George, and Betrayer, with a length be-, tween each, and it was anybody's race. At the three-quarter mile Luna still led, but at. the bottom of the course the borses were all in a cluster. Betrayer then came away with Pißcatrious and made the running, and everybody was looking for the winner in one of these two, when Le Loup, who had been iu waiting, was cleverly pushed to the front,

and won amidst tremendous cheering. Time, 3mins 39£secs. The Welcome Stakes.— A sweepstake of 15 sovs each, with 200 sovs added, for two-year-olds. Colts and geldings, Bst stbs ; fillies, Bst, Second horse to Eave his stake. Four -furlongs. Closed with 32 subs. Mr Horeford's La Mode ... 1 Mr G. Eraser's Hinemoa ... 2 Mr Webb's Blue Jacket ... 3 The following acceptances were received this evening : — For the Grand Stand Hsndicnp :— Miss Domett, 6st 6lbs ; Badsworth, ,7st 121bs ; Libeller, Bsfc 2lbs ; Billingsgate, Sat 61bs ; Betrayer, Bst 121b3 ; Natator, Sst 61bs ; MaritaDa, 9at. For the Canterbury Cup : Sir Modred, Foul Play, Norseman, Virginia Water, Le Loup, and Lure. For the Maiden Handicap : Nautilus, Sst lOlbs ; Mischief, Bst lOlbs ; Holdermere, 9st. Hornby was scratched this evening for all bis engagements. V .
