Wellington, Monday, , A fire on Saturday night destroyed k stable and portion of a brick shed owned by Hill Brothers, brickmakers. One horse in the stable was burnt to death. The origin is unknown but is supposed to be incendiarism 1 . Tbe placb had been on fire several times previously. There was no insurance. j Dunedin, Saturday, j A four-roomed cotfage at the Maori Kaik belonging to John Robinson has been burned down. The loss is £200. It was uninsured. Auckland, Monday. ! A meeting was held at Ngaruawahia ori Saturday to protest against the withdrawal of suburban lands from sale. j Dr Skae has visited St Mary's Orphanage at Ponsonby in company with Mr Tole, M.H.R., in order to report to the Governf ment. | The head of the Government departments here have received circulars to report as to the ages, length of service, &c , of the various officers. ! A procession of the unemployed is^ now proceeding in Queen-Btreet. ' I I*4o, p.m. I The San Francisco mail steamer passed Waiwera at 12*50 p.m., and will arrive here at 3 p.m. ! Christohurch, Monday. • A case arising out of tbe tailors' strike was heard at the Magistrate's Court this morning, when John Maude was charged with having threatened to blind and to break the arm or leg of Mathias Sorenson because thd latter refused to join the Tailors' Society and act with the men on strike. The Bench ordered the accused to be bound over to keep the peace for, six months, and expressed their determination to inflict the.severest possible penalty on the, slightest attempt at anything .of this; kind in the future.. .\ \y.. Yesterday 1200 persons visited Lyttelton to go on: board H.M.S. Danae. The crew paraded for divine service at Trinity Church.] Lyttelton, in the morning. A heavy northwest wind yesterday morning changed to the southwest in the evening when a light rain fell. More rain is urgently required for the crops. A
