Wellington, Tuesday. At the Magistrate's Court, 11. Willes, a schoolmaster, was sentenced to two months hard labor for assaulting a resident tbere. Matthew Hen 'erson on a charge of larceny as a bailee aud embezzlement was again remanded. A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Johnston, assistant e'erk to the Magistrate's Court at Masterton. The charge is for embezzling JG3O of Court moneys. Christchurch, Tuesday. At the City Council last night, Councillor Hulbert gave notice of motion requesting the G-overnnipnt to establish a Mayor's Courb at Christchurch. During the last week the Benevolent Association gave relief to 74 persons. During the quarter ending June 30, there were 65 cases of typhoi.l fever, 10 of diphtheria, and 4 of scarlet fever in Christchurch. , Consequent upon the notice of reduction of wages, the men at the Glen tunnel colliery struck, yesterday. " It is proposed to establish a" Gas Company at Sydenham, a suburb of Christ*. hurch. It is said that a meeting will be held at Ashley to consider the propriety of asking Mr Moorhouse, tbe member for Ashley, to resign. The reason of this step being taken is his repeated disregard of his constituents' expressed wishes.
