TRAGICAL END OF THE KELLY -GANG.

DANICELLY AND HART BURNED TO „.:-, DEA.TH. NED KELLY MORTALLY WOUNDED. Me-gbotjbne, Monday afternoon. Particulars of the capture of Ned Kelly are to hand. Twenty -five civilians had been bailed up by the Kellys when the police arrived. Thia was at three o'clock this morning, but the fighting at once commenced, and Ned Kelly took to tbe bush shortly afterwards, but returned at daylight, and again entered into the fray with his mates. They fought hard, but Ned Kelly received 'a shot in the groin and was captured. The rest of the gang then made off. One of the black trackers received a graze on the head in the encounter. A later telegram to a Melbourne exchange states that Ned .Kelly is lying, at the Glenrowan "Station .mortally wounded. Jones' hotel, which ie close to the station, is occupied by Dan Kelly, Hart, and Byrne, and all the civilians. at the station who were bailed up. • A later telegram states that Byrne is dead, and all the civilians have beeu released by the outlaws. Dan^ Kelly and Hart still occupy the hotel, and incessant firing is taking-place 'between them and the police, but iit is expected that they will surrender ]-. to-day. The outlaws are covered with chain ajrmour to protect. them from Bhots.

The Government have sent a mortar to Glenrowan to dislodge. the outlaws. It ia doubtful whether. Ned Kelly will recover. He has been mortally wounded in three places. The breastplates worn by the gang consist of ploughshares. The dissolution of the Assembly is expected to take place on Thursday. Mr Service will issue a manifesto to the electors in a few days. Considerable electoral activity is already manifesting itself. Sir B. O'Lougblan and Dr L. L. Smith, who were rejected at the last election, will stand for seats in the New Parliament. Only a few electorates will be uncontested. Monday night. Owing to the outlaws continuing to resist the police, the latter fired the hotel, which was burned down, and the charred remains of Hart and Dan Kelly were found covered with armour. The bodies of Byrne and the platelayer have been recovered. The reporter of the Benalla Ensign, two children, and the hotelkeeper were slightly wounded. The civilians were kept prisoners the whole of Sunday by the gang. The platelayers were compelled to destroy the railway. Ned Kelly has been taken to Benalla. Later. There is little f reßh regarding yesterday's events at Glenrowan. Ned Kelly has in all thirteen wounds, eighteen shots struck hia armour. Dan Kelly and Hart were it is said, burnt after death, but it is not certain whether they committed suicide or were shot by the police.
