Wellington, Thursday night. The Hinemoa leaves to-night to search for the missing schooner Colleen Bawn, which left here bound to Havelock on the Ist May, and has not been heard of since May sth. The Hinemoa will visit Port Underwood, Queen Charlotte and Pelorus Sounds, and the adjacent coast as far as Durville Island. Christchurch, Friday. At the inquest on the body of W. Hankins, jockey, the medical evidence proved that death was caused by fracture of the skull, and a verdict of accidental death was returned. A man named Charles Smith, who had been drinking heavily lately, attempted suicide at Rolleston yesterday by cutting his throat. He was brought to the hospital where he lies in a precarious state. A son of Dr. Rouse's was run over by the tram cars and taken to the hospital. A servant named Jane Matthews was arrested to-day on a charge of infanticide in conection with the body of an infant found in the river Avon the other day. Dunedin, Friday. Arrangements are being completed by which enforcement of the compulsory clauses of the Edacation Act will for the first time be carried out by the police* in the Dunedin district.
