DEATH OF THE EMPRESS OF RUSSIA.
Si?. Petersburg, June 3. Her Majesty the Empress of Russia died to-day, aged 76 years, Lonhon, June 2. Brandy, 10s. At the wool sales to-day. 9,600 bales were offered, making a total of 345,800 catalogued since the opening. Prices were firmly maintained. The cricket match, Australians against Eighteen of Keighley, was continued. The Australians, in their first innings, scored 98. The Eighteen, in their second innings, made 61. Boyle took twelve wickets. The Australians, in their second innings, lost two wickets for 32 runs, when the match was drawn, but decidedly in favor of the Australians. Arrived— Hermiono and Waitara from New Zealand. Constantinople, June 2. Sir Henry Layard, the late Ambassador to the Porte, has started for England, his place being taken by tho Right Hon. Mr Goschen. The Albanians continue to resist the cession of territory to Montenegro, and the Montenegrins have decided to attack the Albanians at Gussiupa and Plava. In consequence of the strict blockade which is being maintained, the Albanians are short of provisions, and this will, it is expected, facilitate the settlement cf the difficulty.
