CORRESPONDENCE.
To the Editor of the ' Evening Mail.' ' Sir — Having looked in vain for a report of a meeting of the ratepaj-ers held at the Upper Moutere to elect a member of the Motueka Highway Board in place of Mr Dencker, who had resigned, I would ask you, not as any particular affair of mine, but as an act of the scantiest justice to Mr Dencker, to insert these lines in your paper. The portion of the proceedings relating to ;that gentleman may be stated as follows: — Mr Dencker, in compliance with the wishes of the ratepayers, gave his reasons for resigning his seat on the Board, such a step seeming needful, as iv the report of Mr Tarrant, Secretary to the Board, the, notice of Mr Dencker's resignation had been so placed that it appeared to be in consequence of Mr Bialey's election as Chairman. This Mr Tarrant very decidedly declared to have been unintentional. Mr Dencker's explanation was apparently satisfactory to the meeting, and an unanimous vote of thanks was accorded him for past services. Mr Kelling, as Chairman, was expected to publish a report of the meeting, but he has failed to do so. Indeed the inhabitants of Upper Moutere might well be careful how they burden Mr Kelling with responsibilities of this nature, as has been exemplified in his neglect to forward to the proper quarter a resolution passed at a meeting held a short time ago unent the desirability of erecting a pound at Upper Moutere, the result of whion is that the^deairea ©* ciiuo meetiug have up to this time received no recognition. Doubtless Mr Kelling will be able, now his attention has been called to these matters, to give a satisfactory explanation. — I am. &c, W. Neumann. Neudorf, May 3, 1880.
