A meeting of the creditors of Mr H. Adams, Solicitor, who was recently adjudicated a bankrupt on the petition of a creditor, was held at the Court House yesterday afternoon. The opening of the new Church at Upper Dovedale took place on Monday last, when an unusually large gathering was collected of inhabitants and visitors from the surrounding districts of Wakefield, the Moutere, and Ngatimoti. The Bishop, assisted by tbe Revs. Leighton, Moon, and Spencer, conducted the opening and consecration services, which were entered into most heartily; seven young persons were confirmed, the Holy Communion administered to a large number, and a second service held in the evening, when the Rev. Jas. Leighton preached. The collections at the services alone amounted to £8, and the takings at the lunch aud tea will add largely to the fund for building the small Church, the land for which was given by Mr Rusz, and much of the labor of erection supplied by the inhabitants, Captain Humphrey and his family helping most efficiently. The contractor, Mr Beusemau, has done the work admirably. The painting was done voluntarily by Mr Hocton, and the building is quite an ornamental feature in the V.alley. It is proposed to make use of it as a school, should tbe Board consider that there are children at a sufficient distance from any other school to justify a subsidy. The thirty-sixth anniversary of the Nelson School Society was celebrated yesterday. In the afternoou the children attending the Sunday School met, and eDJoyed themselves by taking part in various games. At five o'clock some 130 of these, in addition to upwards of 120 of the friends of the Society, sat down to an excellent tea, when all present expressed themselves highly pleased with the provision made for them. After tea a public meeting was held, the chair being taken at 7 o'clock by Mr T. Scott. The building was not only crowded to hear the addresses, &c, but a great number were unable to gain admittance. Tbe Revs. Bavin, Leighton, Beckenham, and Hamilton, besides several other geutleman, gave very interesting and instructive addresses, whilst, in addition, the children sang several hymns very well indeed. Mr I. Hill read the report of the Society for the year, which showed its affairs to be in a prosperous state. The whole proceedings were most satisfactory, , indeed, it is generally admitted that the 36th anniversary was more successful even thau either of its predecessors. Eor the ensuing year, the following Committee was elected: — Messrs T. Scott, Smart Peart I. Hill, and Campbell.
