The Nelson Evening Mail. DECEMBER 20, 1879.

A sale of work &c, will be held in the Christ Church Parsonage grounds on Monday afternoon and continued in the Parish bcdoo!room on Tuesday, on the evening of which day there will be a promenade concert, at which several well known amateurs have kindly promised their assistance. The attractions of the stalls will be found to be very great, and the articles are all marked at most reasonable prices. One table will consist entirely of Christmas presents suitable for children. They include a tea and coffee service for the mother of the prize baby, spirit and cruet stands, cups, toast racks, egg stands, and a variety of other articles, besides a number of silver watches ! A novelty in shop window attractions is displayed at Messrs Wymond & Co.'s where four wax dolls are to be seen dressed in the very pink of fashion. The most prominent which atands about 4ft Gin high, represents a blushing and a very pretty bride whose whole get up is faultless, while attendant upon her are two bridesmaids also most tastefully arrayed but more Lilliputian in their dimensions. Another little body shows how well customers may be fitted with walking dresses at the establisment whose window she graces. A meeting of the Young Men's Christian Association was held last night, when the following presentations were made to members of the Literary Class r— For the beat humorous recitation (gift of Mr Heyhoe)Mr Vesey. Hounsell)— Mr House Mr. Mabin reports the sale by auction today of the booth sites for the Interprovinciai Cricket Match, to be held at Victory Square on Boxing Day and following day. The publican's booth realized £7 10s, and was bought by Mr A. Leech; the refreshment booth fetched £2, and the fruit stall 10s, both of which were purchased by Mr Donaldson. A meeting of the Tradesmen's Athletic Club was held last night, when a large amount of business was done in connection with the New Year's Day Sports. The name of Mr John Pratt was added to tha Sports Committee. Mr Bloch kindly offered to photograph the prize baby, and to present the mother with a full sized picture of the little one who wins for her the handsome tea and coffee service, which has been selected as the prize. The offer was accepted with thanks. The large marquee belonging to the Foresters' Society has been secured for the Baby Show, and the whole of the arrangements are auch as to justify the anticipations that are indulged in of a most successful day. The Bites of booths, &c, were sold by

auction to-day by Mr J. R. Mabin, and realised the following prices :— No. 1, publican's, £16 15s, Mr O'Brien ; No. 2, ditto, £9 10s, Mr Leech ; No. 3, ditto, £5, Mr Stallard ; No. 1, refreshment, £2 ss, Mr Burrell ; No. 2, ditto, £3, Mr Donaldson ; Right of games, £6, Mr Parmenter. Right of cards, .£1 23 Cd, Mr Carter. The fancy bazaar was bought in by the Club, who have it for disposal privately.
