Wellington, Tuesday night. The Government sai_ they were not responsible for damage by 'sparks from engines nor damage to cattle from the locomotives. They could not promise to pay the subsidies to the local bodies for the quarter ending _oth June 1880. They could not provide that in future road cannot be enforced through Native lands crown-granted because it might prevent roads being made in Hiii district. Major Atkinson sr.id the security for loans in England was the revenue of the colony and not the lands in particular. The Government have not made arrangements to complete the Tapanui railway because the money was uot voted for the purpose. The Government promised during the recess to devise some means for the apprehension and punishment of those deserting their wives and children. The Government could not provide that inspectors of schools should be under the control of the Education Department instead of the Boards. It was uot true that the Te Puke block was disposed of to any person The Government were arranging for facilities for a visit to tbe colony by the deputation of Lincolnshire farmers now soon expected. Ad inquiry should be made into the working of the stamp fees. The Government hoped to bring the session to a close on Tuesday next.
