ATTEMPTED ASSASSINATION OP THE EMPEROR OF RUSSIA. St. Petersburg^ December 3rd An unsuccessful attempt has been made on the life of the Emperor of Russia, who arrived at Moscow yesterday. The train followiog with baggage was blown up, and seven carriages were completely destroyed, but fortunately nobody was injured. The perpetrators are unknown, but it was undonbtedly the work of Nihilists. The Emperor, in reply to a deputation presenting a congratulatory address, thanked God for his escape, and appealed to the aid of his subjecta in exterminating sedition. Mirski, the Nihilist, has been reprieved and sentenced to penal servitude. Londox, December 2. The Queen is suffering from a severe cold. At the wool sales to-day 7,700 bales were catalogued. The tone of the market was firm. December 3. The Queen is recovering from her indisposition. There was never any cause for anxiety. Arrived— Rialto, from Lyttelton, Aug. 16. Berlin, December 3rd A very serious colliery explosion occurred at Chemnitz in Saxony, by which 80 persons ■were killed. r _,_ Quebec, December 3rd. The Government of the Dominion of Canada intend to appoint a Minister who will reside in London to adequately represent Canada. Madrid, December 2. The vineyards in Malaga are attacked by phylloxera, and the pest is increasing.
