(From a correspondent.) Wellington, Monday. Mr Shephard dined with the new Opposition on Saturday. He appears to have entirely given in hi 3 adherence and support to that party. People here are wondering how he can possibly do so after his election pledges, as his vote will be in the direction, not only of putting Mr Macandrew again in office, but in the position of Premier of the coloDy, thas giving him greater power and facilities to obstruct the railway. Mr Pyke declined going to either dinner," but Mr Stewart, the aspirant to the AttorneyGeneralship, attended both. Sir G. Grey excused himself on ihe plea of ill-health, but some say it was from anger on account of Mr Macandrew resuming the leadership of the Opposition. The state of parties remains the same, but in the meantime the business is going on, and the no confidence motion is sinking further down ' on the Order Paper. To-morrow the Go- i vernment will make further statements of their policy to the House.
