Helton, 23rd September, 1879. To thb Nelson College Boys. Your memorial has given me grett pleasure. To fiod that after twenty years, I am still remembered by the present boys of a college of which I was head boy for two years, and where, oo behalf of my fellow scholars, I had the honor of mekiog the speech for the sobool on the occasion of laying the foundation of the present building, is indeed most gratifying. lam glad that you take an interest in polities. The future of New Zealand rests in the hands of those, who, like yourselves, by having been born and educated on her soil, tnuet necessarily appreciate her vast resources and the political requirements of her people better than any others. When I stated in Parliament that I believed Sir George Grey would not represent the young Liberals of New Zetland, I did not anticipate that I fboold so soon receive a proof of it. If you are true to yourselves and true to * the best interests of the country of your birth, yon will distinguish between the osnt of a liberalism that is used as a stepping-stone to power, and the genuine ring of that whose followers fight for the welfare and goo \ government of all classes in the Colony. Your Principal, at my request, baß been kind enough to allow your holidays to commence next Friday instead of on Saturday night, and to promise to grant a whole holiday for cricket any fine day jou may choose next quarter. And, while trusting that you will enjoy your holidays thoroughly, 1 venture to hope that you will always recollect that success in any branch of life cannot be obtained except by hard work; and thftt, on your return to school, you will devote yourselves more earnestly than ever to fitting yourselves to hold high and honorable positions amongst your fellow men.— Yourß faithfully, W. Acton B. Adams,
