The Advocate states that Mr Halcombe is legally disqualified in consequence of having entered into a contract with the Government for supplying 3000 sleepers at 2s 9a each. Dunedix, Friday. Mr Carrick has retired from Caversham bo as not to split the Liberal vote. Wellington, Friday. The statement made that Mr Halcombe is legally disqualified as a candidate for election because he signed a Government contract for sleepers on behalf of the Colonists Aid Company is denied, legal advice having been taken. It is alleged that Mr Halcombe can cite the case of the Hon Henry Russell which has established a precedent.
