TfUKSS AGENCY.] Wellington, Wednesday night. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company heid their usual monthly sale of wool, sheepskins, &c, this afternoon. There was a full attendance of buyers, and prices were well maintained. A few inferior lots of mixed fleeces, &c , realized up to s_d, but as usual at this time of the year very little is forward. Sheepskins, butchers grain skins, 2s 6i to 3s lid each; dry crossbred skins, 2'd to od per lb; pelts and short wool skins, 6d to ls lOd each. The demand for hides is slack, but good heavy weights, 651bs and upwards, sell well at 3d per lblight weights unsaleable at over 2d per lb. Tallow, no demand, and arrivals coining in freely, but with the news of the rise at Home holders expect to obtain the reserves. Oats are in fair supply, for good feed 3s was obtainable; chick wheat, 3s to 3s 4d, according to sample. Moderate demand for chaff at £5 10s to £6 per ton for hydraulic pressed. Mr Brandon announces that he will seek re-election for the country districts, and Mr Izard opposes him. It is rumored that a requisition is being got up to Mr Gillon. Mr W. P. Major Atkinson addressed a large meeting last night. He reviewed the political events, denied that he had neglected the district, and pledged himself to reoccupy the Waimate Plains. He said that the Grey Government bad passed no useful measures whatever, that Rewi had hoodwinked 'Sir G. Grey and Mr Sheehan, and that Sir G. Grey had no idea ho;v to cope with the uativedifficulty. He advocated the public works being pushed on in the district. He was well questioned, and a vote of confidence was passed without any dissension. Reeftox, Thursday. A meeting was held here last night ot persons desirous of securing Mr Gisborne'a return, and a Committee of 36 was formed to work the election for him.
