"UNION IS STRENGTH."
To the Editor of the " Evening Mail.' Sib,—The readers of your last night's issue must have been highly gratified at the novel occurrence of tbe Nelson members voting all but unanimously in opposition to the Government. One is inclined to speculate upon what a very different position our settlement might have held with respect to the railway and other necessary public works if they had been as united on previous divisions. Had the promises made by the Ministry with respect to our railway extension been carried out in their integrity who knows but that the eight votes might have been as unanimously recorded on their side, and thus have saved them their seats, but perhaps it is as well as it is. At any rate, it has taught our representatives the useful lesson that " Union is strength."—l am, &c, Nelsonian.
