PARLIAMENTARY.
Wellington, Thursday night. In the Legislative Council, respecting the appointment of Speaker, Colonel Whitmore said that the story that the Premier told Major Richmond that the Ministry wanted some one who would support their measures was beneath contempt. Sir W. Fitzherbert said the Premier exacted from him no pledge whatever. (Cheers.) A Bill to control and cure drunkards was read the first time.
