London, April 22. Cape news states that Colonel Wood has met and defeated the enemy. The Zulus loss of life was very great. The British was 400 and that of the Zulus 3000. In insurrection has broken out in the Transvaal. The Boers prevent Lord Chelmsford ordering them on active service. Sir Bartle Frere proceeded to attempt to pacify them. The Boers have invested the town, and declare they will hold it and keep Sir Bartle Frere prisoner until tbe British Government redress their grievance. A batle has been fought near Kamballa, when Colonel Wood achieved a brilliant victory. Cetewayo is reported to have fled. The heavy lossea have destroyed the Zulu power. The transport Clyde, with 800 troops on fcoard, has been wrecked at Natal. No lives vere lost. April 23. Wheat is sixpence lower. _„ April 24. Obituary — Hon. George Harker, and Monckton Synnot White, of Holmes and "White. Consols, 99. War preparations are being made in Persia. A large frontier force has been concentrated at the Afghan frontier, owing to the presence of a number of refugees at Herat, combined ■with possible complications if the Russians advance to Merv.
