The Nelson Evening Mail. SATURDAY, MARCH 8, 1879.

The moonlight excursion by the Lady Barkly last eveniiig was a great success, the little steamer being crowded to excess, while a uumber who bad taken tickets were compelled to stay behind in consequence of there being no room on board. The steamer left the wharf shortly after seyen o'clock, and

proceeded outside the harbor and along the Boulder Bank neatly to the end of it, where she turned back and arrived iv harbor about half-past nine. The night was beautifully fine, and the water as smooth as glass; so that not one of the excursionists suffered from that inevitable concomitant to sea trips — mal de mer. The Brass Band was in attendance, and played at intervals during the trip. On arriving alongside the wharf three cheers were given for Captain Cross, Captain Walker and his crew, and the Band. The trip was a financial success, and a considerable sum of money will be handed over to the promoters of the Port Hail in consequence. There was a fair attendance at the Theatre Royal last evening, when Byron's " Dearer than Life," and the farce "Hunting a Turtle," were successfully performed. Tonight " Our Boys " will, by special request, be repeated, under the patronage of Colonel Packe, Major Pitt, Captain Bunny and other Volunteer officers, and the representatives attending the Association meeting. As this wili be the last appearance of this talented Company we anticipate a bumper house, more especially as the performance is for the benefit of Mr E. D. Haygartb, whose representation of the Butterraan has so favorably impressed all who have witnessed him in this remarkable character. There will be divine service in the Wesleyan Church, Spring Grove, to-morrow. As next Tuesday is a public holiday all the cases set down for that day in the Resident Magistrates Court will be adjourned to that day week. The Education Board's advertisements will be found on the third page.
