N.Z. RIFLE ASSOCIATION.
A large number of ladies and gentlemen from town and the surrounding districts were present yesterday afternoon at the camp, which presented a very gay appearance, and a considerable amount of interest was displayed in the result of the firing, which commenced immediately after the
opening ceremony. For the first match, which was open to all members of the Association, whether Volunteers or not, there were no less than 130 entries, being 34 in excess of the highest number that ever entered for a single eyent at any of .the preTious meetings, which may be regarded as a proof that the present system is more popular among the riflemen of New Zealand than that for which it has been substituted. The firing from the first range (200 yards) concluded at 530, and thi3 brought the day's proceedings to a close. This morning it was decided that the 134 competitors should fire in two divisions, the first to complete the two ranges of 500 and 600 yards before the second commenced. The firing of the first division lasted until dinner time, when the scores stood as follows:— FIRST MATCH. 200 yards, 5000 yards, and 600 yards, 7 shots at each range. Prizes— £lo, £9, £8, £7 £6, £5, 4 of £3 each, 8 of £1 each. i 200 yds.
