His Worship said that bad it not appeared from the evidence that the defendant was when the accident occurred closely pursued he would have given judgment for plaintiff, but defendant being closely pursued had bis mind bo intently fixed on the ball that he saw little else and therefore the bench considered he was playing a lawful game in a lawful place, and'in the manner in which the game is usually played. His Worship further held there was a contributing negligence on the part of the plaintiff; the boy was evidently fond of the game and had often watched it with other boys but was old enough to know that he had placed himself in a position of danger, therefore judgment must be giveu for the defendant with costs. His Worship remarked that although cricket and football had been played for centuries he was unable to find any reported case analagous to this, good sense and charitable feelings have generally indicated a way of compensation without recourse to the law. News has just arrived frcm Boatman's that Mrs Librec has succeeded in findiug the spot where Costello's body was buried by the murderer, and to morrow the police will "start to dig for the remains. The fire was stopped by pulling down the building of Quinn, watchmaker. There was not a breath of wind, and the Brigade worked well. The insurance on the block is inconsiderate, as some offices would not renew. Some insurances only lapsed this week. Healy's stock was insured in the Norwich for £GOO, half of which was reinsured in the Standard, in the Colonial £250, and iv the New Zealand, £350. Mr Scott, building for £250 in the Colonial; Mr Jensen's stock iv the Colonial for £350, and Union for £200; Mr Presswood's stock in the Northern for £200; Messrs Pritchard, Macey, Collier, a,nd Penney had no insurance, but most of their goods were saved; Mr Griffith's building was in&ured for £400 in the Union; Mr Dobson's stock for £400---in the New Zealand, but much was saved; Messrs Home and Cleghorne had no insursurance, and nothiDg was saved but their books. Messrs Robinson Brothers' stock was damaged by removal, it was insured in the Victorian Office for £750, and in the Liverpool, London, and Globe for £500; Mr Jellyniau's building was insured in the National for £100; Messrs O'Sullivan and McNab's building was insured in the Victoria for £150; Mrs Wall's building was iusured in the Norwich for £200,
