Endeavors are being nade to secure the appointment of Riccotti Garibaldi to the Consul - Generalship of Italy to Victoria vacant by the death of Signor Marinucci Lord Harris's team of English cricketers arrived here to-day from Sydney. They play a return match against Victoria on xnday and following days. Tuesday. The Victorian Parliament has been further prorogued to April 4tb. Cavile swims ten miles in the Yarra on Saturday. . Sydney, Tuesday. Uver six hundred workmen are emoloved in erecting the Exhibition buildings, and rapid progress is being made. . . . Brisbane, Tuesday. At a meeting of squatters yesterday it was resolved to subscribe the capital necessary to float a Compressed Meat Company. [Special.] Adelaide, Monday. Summary of news per Garonne :— Six hundred locked-out agriculturists of Kent and Sussex are emigrating to New Zealand. The public are invited to assist the movement. The prevailing distress ia aggravated by the severity of the weather. Cape papers give news relative to the disaster to the British at Rorkes drift. The troops consisted of five companies of the 24th regiment, two guns artillery, and Native troops. Details are wanting.
