AUCKLAND RACES.

Auckland, Thursday. The attendance at the races yesterday waa larger than on any previous occasion. The high reputation of the first day's racing (on Boxing Day) appeared to have stimulated the public, and inspired confidence. For the first event, the Derby, there were only three entriea. Omega 1, Althea 2, Misdemeanor 3. Althea had a good start, leading by two lengths to the turn. Coming up the straight Omega came forward with a long springing canter, and at the finish won by several lengths easily, Althea a .bad second, Misdemeanor close up. Time, 3mins 8f sees. Publican's Purse, one mile: Isaac Walton 1, Yatterlna colt 2, Eepo 3. Time, 3mins 52sec3. Selling Race: Slander sst Blbs 1, Ngatapa Bsfc lllbs, 2; Golden Crown, 7st lllbs, 3. The co!t made the running, the others racing hard for second place, the colt being bard held, but the whips freely used on the others. At the finish be won by two lengths. After the race the colt was sold for £326, being bought in by Mr, Walters. Auckland Racing Club Handicap 'of 200 sots: Pinfire, 7at lllbs, 1, Zantippe, sst I2sibs, 2; Perfume, 6st slbs, 3. There also ran Isaac Walton, Venus Transit, Lady Elizabeth, and Gillie Callum. It was a fractious start, and Punga was left inside the post and thrown out of the race. The first time round the three horses passed the Grand Stand in a cluster, when Perfume rushed to the front. Gillie Callum took up the inside running past the Stand, and occupied Venus Transit's position, who was falling back. On nearing the cutting Pinfire passed Venus Transit, and Gillie Callum collared Zantippe and Perfume. At the turn leading into the straight whips were freely used, and amid intense excitement Pinfire shot past with Zantippe on his flank, Perfume a close third Time, 3mins ISfsecs. Grand Stand Handicap, of 100 'sovs: Pinfire, Bst 41bs, 1; Punga, 7st, 2;Repo. 6st 31bs, 3. On the rising ground Repo challenged Pinflre and Punga, and Pinfire dropped back a length. In rounding the turn for the straight Clifford treated the public to another magnificent rush, bringing Pinfire through his horses, and landing him a winner by a neck. Time, 2mina 18secs.
