LYTTELTON REGATTA.
Ltttelton, Thursday. There was a large attendance at the regatta, though less than the previous years. The wind was north west but very light and it wag a poor day for sailing races.— Ships Boats Sailing Race Ist prize £10, second £5. Three entries. Won by the Rangitikei. — Champion Race for trading vessels under 50 tons. First prize, Shaw and Saville'sJCup and 75SOVS, second 25sovs. The Jessie Nicoll, Owake and Croydon were scratched. The Albert, Herald and Torea came in in the order named after, a long race, the wind having failed badly. In the Champiok Yacht Race the Dovepassedthe Committee's ship at 7 p.m., beating they Wira by five minutes.— Four Oared Whaleboat Race for youths. Prizes £10 and £3. Won by the Rangitoto, Avalanche aecond.—SAiLi.vo Race in open boats. Prizes £25 and £5. Won by the Toy, Rangitikei second —Canoe Racb for Mayor's Cup. Lanauze 1, Kathleen J. Jones 2.— Ships Boats PotLiNG Race: Prizes £15, £5 and £2. Entries : Hurunui, Hydaspes, Rangitikei, and Florence MacDonald. Hurunui I, Florence MacDonald 2. The land sports were competed for with great enthusiasm. Twenty -six trains with passengers arrived during the day from Christchurch and between eleven and twelve thousand tickets were issued.
