CRICKET MATCH.
NORMANBY CVaVA WAKEFIELD CC. On Saturday last one of the favorite matches with our cricketere was played on the Wakefield ground, and for once the town men secured a victory. The Normanby eleven left town by the morning train, and thanks to tbe railway officials were allowed to leaye the train Bird's Une, wbicb
caused a considerable saving of time to the cricketers. Messrs Greenfield aud S. Fowler captained the respective teams, and after the usual preliminaries, the Wakefield men took the field. H. Haliiday and Tirth were> the first to represent the Normanbys with the bat, and by careful play took the score tb 7, when Firth was bowled by a trimmer from Eden. C. Haliiday took his place. H. Haliiday now made a splendid leg hit for six, but C. Haliiday shortly afterwards retired l.b.w. The wickets now fell rapidly, and, with the score at 47, H. Haliiday "was bowled by Eden, he having made 27 in good style. Baylor and Rout made a good stand, but T. Eden was weli on the wicket, aud, with* the score at 62, the last wicket fell. The Normanbys now took the field, and Arnold and W. Eden represented Wakefield with the bat, but the partnership did not last long, C. Haliiday being In rare form took Arnold with a splendid ball, and the wickets fell very quickly, no stand being made whatever, and with six wickets down for 21 the teams retired to the tent for luncb, where Host Smith of the Forest Inn prepared a capital spread. On resuming the match, strange to say, the last four wickets fell for an addition of only one run. The total score was thus 22. C. Haliiday and Rout bowled splendidly, the former taking 7 wickets. The Normanbys again took took the bat, and, with the score at 19, H. Haliiday was splendidly caught at slip by W. Eden. In this innings Foy with 21 and Nay lor not out 17 played very prettil v. The innings closed for 76. The Wakefield men went in for the second innings at a quarter to five, hut tbe bowling was again " dead on," : and the wickets fell rapidly al- ! though J.FowlerandK.Knapp batted well for 10 and 12 respectively. S. JFowler played very nicely for 14 when he was run. out by H. Haliiday at longstop. The umpires shortly afterwards called time with seven wickets down f or C l . The Normanbys thus won in the first innings hy 40 runs. T. Eden for Wakefield, and C. Haliiday, Rout, and Foy for the Normanbys bowled in solendid form considering the rough state of the ground. The fielding of the Normanbys was very good, especially Firth at the wicket. T. and W. Eden aud Fowler also fielded well for the Wakefield team. Messrs H. Knapp and P. Topliss officiated as umpires. Three hearty cheers were given on both sides, and it was decided to play the return match in town in a fortnight's time. We regret that we are unable to find room for the score.
