LOSS OF THE SCHOONER J. G. COLESON.

The Post of Tuesday says:— The steamer Alhambra, which arrived last night from Melbourne by way of West Coast aud Nelson, brought with her the captain and crew of the schooner J. G. Coleson, which was wrecked at Stephens Cape on Thursday jnorniug. Captain Browne!! reports leaving West Wasganui with a cargo of coal for this port, and had lnoderata weather till Thursday morning, when the wind increased and blew with hurricane force, accompanied with heavy sea aud thick, rainy weather. He was just iibout to shorten sail to round the vessel, when breakers were seen, and the vessel struck on a rock some distance from the mainland. She struck very heavily, and soon after got oif, wueu, as she was foundering, the boat was got out, and the crew left the vessel, which was swiftly washed on shore. Being unable to land at the place where she struck, the crew pulled away four miles along the coast of D'Urv ille's Island.aud proceeded to the station of Messrs M'Cleland aud F. A.- and J. S. Cowline, where they arrived the same evening and were very hospitably entertained. The crew remained at the station till yesterday morning, when they proceeded down to the French Pass, hoping to meet a vessel eoiuiug to Wellington, aud when oIE Frauds Head they fortunately succeeded iv doing so, aud arrived here as stated above. Nothing was saved from the vessel; the captain therefore loses his instruments, charis, clothing, &c, while the crew lose everything but what they were wearing at the time of the mishap. The J. G. Colcsou was only recently purchased by Messrs. T. Scott aud Co., Wellington, and was a smart schoouer of 70 tuns. dhe was insured for £800 iv the Christchurch Itrnnch of the Uuited lusurauee Company— a, Xew South Wales ofKce. The cargo of coal was insured for £200 in the Colonial Insurauce Company. The sum ot £V.i was subscribed for the crew by the passengers on board the Alhambra.
