The Wallace left for Wanganui yesterday afternoon. The Murray arrived at Westport from Nelson yesterday afternoon. The Charles Edward leaves Wellington for Nelson this evening. The Kennedy arrived at Waitara this morning from New Plymouth and Greymouth, and will leave for Nelson to-morrow, weather permitting. The Pelorus returned from Havelock this afternoon. The Wellington arrived at Wellington at 5 a.m. to-day. The Arawata, with the Suez mail, will arrive here about coon on Friday. The Taiaroa leaves Onehunga to-day, and will arrive here to-morrow evening. The Lady Barkly sailed last evening for Golden Bay. The Ringarooma leaves Melbourne for New Zealand ports to-day. She will call at Nelson this trip. The Ladybird will make a trip North instead of the Taranaki, which is having an overhaul at Port Chalmers so as to be in good fettle for the summer seeson. TiiEship Edwin Fox left Plymouth for Nelson on the Bth August with 249 Government immigrants for the following ports : — ForNelson43, Westland 120, Marlborough 74, Auckland 7, Taranaki, 5. Among those for Nelson are 26 single women. The first of Captain Howard Smith's new steamers, intended for the trade between Melbourne and Sydney, has arrived at the former port, after a splendid passage of 48 days from Liverpool. This gives the average running at slightly over 11 knots per hour, and to do this -about 900 tons of coal was consumed. She is named the Leura, and •was built by Messrs Potter & Co., of Liverpool. The engines, by Messrs Jack & Co., are 250 h.p. nominal, and during the whole of the passage out were only stopped for four hours.
