To the Editor of the 'Evening Mail.' Sir, — Will you allow me space in your columns to say a few words concerning the preservation of game. I read in the Mail the other evening that it was not safe to poison rabbits, I am also informed that the Government intend to make a law compelling all those who carry a gun to have a license for it. There are 313 days in the year on which I thiuk people should be allowed to carry a gun to destroy the rabbits, the remaining 52 I thiuk people ought not to carry a gun, but where I live the sound of guns niay be heard every day in the year, except j it be very wet, and if this be stopped, in twelve months' time I and my neighbors will be almost eaten up with rabbits, and ii they are uot allowed to be destroyed j

hope the Government will seta boundary for for them. Mr Wither says he is sick and tired of growing game for the Richmond poachers, bat I am sure that many of the people of that district would be much obliged to him if he would put up a sufficient fence to keep his game from trespassing on other people's property. I could state many instances of people working in their gardens all day and^ getting up in the morning and finding their day's work destroyed. I would also ask, has the traiu here not time to do its work in six days a week as at Blenheim. — I am, &c, E. Jellymatt. Stoke, Aug. 31, 187 S.
