We have been requested by the Hon Secretary of the Lower Wakefield School Oommittee to publish the following resolu- ' tions recently agreed to in consequence of the Central Board having appointed a successor to Mr Chattock, the late master, without consulting the Committee:— At a meeting, held on the 6th inst., it was resolved, " That iv consequence of the action of the Central Board, iv appointing a teacher for the Lower Wakefield school withont first consulting the Committee, in contravention of the 45th clause of the Education Act, this Committee wishes seriously to impress on the Board that if this is to be the interpreting of the Act and general action of the Board, they, as a Committee, decline to act." At a subsequent meeting, held a week later, it was resolved, " That holidays be given to the children from July 20th to August 3rd, in order that the Central Board may have au opportunity of re-considering their appointment of a teacher without consulting this Committee." (2)' "That this Committee still adhere to their resolution to resign if the Centra). Board declines to consult them in the appointment of masters and teachers." A special meeting was held on the following day, six members being present, when it was proposed by Mr R. M. Smith, That the school be opened on Monday, the 22nd inst. As no one could be found to second this resolution, it lapsed. Mkssks Wilkins and Cowles announce their intention of giving another of their interesting illustrated lectures in the Temperance Hall to-morrow erening, when the first subject will be "The Israelites' early history," to be followed, by the " Mother's last words." There is no charge for admission, but those who attend are reminded that the expenses of these lectures, which have afforded so many pleasant evenings to numerous people, are heavy, and that, in order to help to meet them, boxes for the reception of voluntary contributions are placed at the door. At the Motueka Magistrate's Court this morning, Alexander Johnson, a man of color from Hokitika, charged with larceny from the house of Mr A. Dodson, of Hiwaka, was sentenced to four months imprisonment with hard labor. The attention of the trade and general public is called to the auction aale to-mor-row on the premises of H. Davis & Co., when Messrs Sharp & Pickering will dispose of the balance of stock without the sh'ghest
reserve. The drapery will be sold in small lots which affords a really first rate opportunity to heads of families, &c, to lay in a stock;
The knight of tbe riiefdl countenance was probably a victim of the depression; irritability and caiise.leis apprehension which are Symptomatic of confirmed dyspepsia. There are many such knights whose days are undoubtedly shortened by the misery of body and mind produced by that harassing disease.
