# Mr P. P. M'Carthy, architect, of Bar- , ring ton-street, Limerick, has received v: theioHowing letter, "G. A. Hanley, • New Square, Lincoln's Inn :" — " lam directed to inform you that the; first instalment of the O'Keefe legacy ■baa come to hand io your favor for : £500,000. ' The whole or the greater portion of the five millions left by the deceased will come to you, except ..the portion allowed to your brothers, about which the Crown will deqisle." This vast fortune was acquired by a cousin of Mr McCarthy's named O'&eefe. . Mr O'Keefe, while only 18 years of age, made his way to. India, where he enlisted as a private soldier. Through good conduct he secured a commission, but he did not retain . it long, believing {hat commerce was his real forte. He went into the opium trade, and soon acquired a cobssal j fortune. Mr O'Keefe died unmarried in February, 1876, when Messrs CarTington and Whigley, solicitors, of Calcutta, advertise for friends. No , fewer than 175 applicants put in claims, but they were all put aside, on investigation, in favor of Mr M'Carthy, of Limerick, who has four brothers, each ". of whom will come in for a . twenty-fifth part of the five millions and estate, but Mr M'Carthy will be the recipient of the greater part of the fortune;
