THE WAIROA BRIDGE.

We are indebted to Mr W. White for the following information, from which it will be seen that there is to be no further delay with regard to the much needed bridge over the Wairoa River, but that it is to bo proceeded with at once= Great fredit is due to the Government for the speedy action they have taken in the matter.

In puuuance of a resolution passed at the public meeting, held at Spring Gro^e on Wednesday evening last, the deputation met at Richmond yesterday, and sent the following telegram to the Hon. the Minister for Public Works, Wellington, and also to Sir George Gr«y : —

" Large public meeting at Spun;* Grove last evening re Wairoa Bridge. Will it be proceeeded with before vote lapses. Please reply.— (Signed) Edwakd Baigbnt, M.H.R.; J. W. Barnicoat, Chairman of County Council ; W. White, Chairman of Woimea Road Board."

The following replies were received during tho day :—

"To E. Baigent, Esq., M.H.R.— The question of Wairoa Bridge ia now under considerat'on of engineers. When their report is received you shall be commuuicated with. — Geo. GnET, Government Buildings." "Engineers now report Bridge is to be gone on with.— G bo. Gjrey, Government Buildings."

"Directions havo been given to proceed with Bridge. — J. Macandeew."

The deputation therefore consider it unnecessary, at present, to proceed to Wellington.
