THE PORT RAILWAY.
O'MALLEY'S (WELLINGTON) TENDER ACCEPTED. The Government have taken prompt action in the matter of the railway since the news was received of the floating of the loan, as will be seen by the following telegram, which was kindly handed to us by his Worship the Mayor for publication just before we went to press: —
" With reference to the telegram of the Minister for Public Works intimating that the contract for the Pore Line would be accepted to-day, I am now to inform you that Mr O'Malley, of ;Wellington, who is the lowest tenderer, has been requested to attend and execute the documents forming the contract.—John Knowles, Under Secretary for Public Works."
We have not heard the amount of Mr O'Malley's tender, but it is evidently below auy of those sent in from Nelson, which were as follows :— Messrs Patterson and Jones, .£7,635; Mr Gilbertson, £9,16 f; Mr J Scott' -.10,300. '
