SAFETY OF THE WALLACE.
We are glad to be able to report that the Wallace, which has had a hard time of it since she left here on Tuesday, has arrived at Wanganui in tow of the Murray, which was despatched yesterday afternoon to her assistance. We last night received a telegram stating that she was in comparative safety, as the wind and sea had gone dowD, and she was riding easily at anchor. This morning the owners were advised by telegraph that the Murray had picked her up and was towing her to Wanganui, and this afternoon we received the following telegram from our Wanganui correspondent:— " The Murray has just towed the Wallace inside. The Wallace broke her main shaft over the cylinders on Wednesday morning at eight o'clock about 20 miles off Stephen's Island. She then took the floats off the paddles, and made sail for here. The Murray will have to tow her to Nelson, but the ■weather is very bad at present."
