The Charles Edward is still detained at Hokitika by the weather, but reports sea falling and weather clearing. She expects to get away to-morrow. The Awaroa has a full cargo, and is only ■waiting for a change of wind to sail from Wanganui for Nelson. In consequence of the Eingarooma undergoing her half-yearly inspection at Melbourne this trip she will be detained there some days. Her place will be taken by the Alhambra. The Taranaki 1 caves Wellington this evening, will arrive here to-morrow morning, and sail for Taranaki and Manukau by the same tide at 1 1.30 a.m. The Wellington, after having been cleaned and painted, hauled into deep water this morning, and will probably come alongside the wharf this evening. She sails for Picton as 9 30 a.m. to-morrow. Shortly after crossing the Manukau bar. and while steaming towards Onehunga on Monday last during a dense fog, the Taiaroa had the misfortune to run on a sandbank. Hardly was she properly fast when the fog fted. The Arthur "Wakefield, Unity, and Forest Queen were towed out of Waitapu yesterday by the Lady Barkly. As they are all bound for Wellington, and had a good wind behind them, it is probable that a tight race will ensue. The barque Tasso, a week out from this port, and the schooner Mary Ogilvie which left here on Sunday, were spoken by the Lady Barkly yesterday, running for Tonga for shelter. The master of the Tasso reports ttr<t strong N.W. winds have been raging outside for some days. The Un on Company's s s. Taiaroa, Capt. Kennedy, arrived in harbor last evening ai eleven o'clock. She left Onehunga at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, and arrived off Taranaki at 5 a.m. yesterday; landed passengers and mails, but in cousequence of a heavy sea setting in was only able to land a portion of the cargo, the remainder— about 25 tons — having to be brought on here, where the steamer arrived as above, after a passage of 14£ hours. Experienced strong S.W. winds with heavy sea in the Strait?. The Taiaroa sailed for Wellington and South at S 45 a m to-day, with a fine S.W. wind behind her, and if she carries it far the steamer ought to be ia Wellington by 7 o'clock to-night.
