A sr-EciAL meeting of the Board of Education will be held to-morrow for the purpose of receiving the report of the deputation, which was recently sent to Wellington to confer with the Government on matters pertaining to education in this district. 'We understand that Messrs Barnicoat and Hodgson, who formed the deputation, have every reason to be satisfied with the result of their visit. A correspondent writes to us complaining of the want of punctuality in opening the meeting last night. He says that the audience were kept waiting for twenty minutes without any apology being offered for the delay. At the Police Court to-day Ellen Hunter was fined £5, or in default one month's imprisonment, for keeping a house of ill-fame. Mr Harrison Oru will deliver his second lecture iu the Provincial Hall to-night at half-past seven on the " Tabernacle of Israel." His fivst lecture on Monday last was of a most interesting and instructive character, illustrated by his large and beautiful model. Notwithstanding the damp weather, wo expect the Hall will be again filled to-night. At the request of various friends, wo are informed Mr Ord will deliver a special lecture to children ou Friday afternoon at three o'clock. The Inaugahua Herald states that Harry Smith, acquitted on a charge of larceny on the prosecution of S. Gilmer, Reefton, lias commenced an action, claiming damages to the extent of £2000 for malicious prosecution.
