[PRESS AGENCY.] Napier, Tuesday. The funeral of the late Bishop of Waiapu took place to-day. There was a very large attendance, and the shops iv town wore all closed. New Plymouth, Tuesday. Mr Decimus Atkinson has written to the Superintendent of Police stating that heariug his name appears in the police report, he requests " that the cause may be shown, and that he may be proceeded against forthwith." He has written a letter to the paper denying that he had anything to do with the party who attempted the destruction of the arch raised in connection with Sir George Grey's visit. Christchurch, Wednesday. At the inquest on the body of Thompson, who was killed in the recent fatal affray, the jury returned a verdict of manslaughter agaiust John Leved who was committed for trial. At the final meeting of the Indian Famine Fund Committee it was stated that the total amount collected was £5 ..340. The balance of £270 remaining in hand will be given to the Benevolent Institution. There is great dissatisfaction amongst merchants and others at the short supply of trucks between Christchurch and the port. Taupo, Wednesday. Two sharp earthquakes were felt here between 9 aud 5.15 this morning, but no damage was done. The springs were unusually active for a considerable time after the shocks.
