CORRESPONDENCE.

To the Editor ov the • Evening Mail.' Sir,— ln the report which appeared in your paper of the proceedings of a meeting I held at Takaka on the 12th ultimo, there was a mistake your reporter made Avhich, as similar words were repeated in each of the other Nelson papers, I deferred asking you to correct till I had communicated with a few persona who were at the meeting. Your reporter says a vote of confidence was carried in Mr Gibbs' faror (except with reference to

the vote Mr Gibbs had given on the no-con-fidence motion subsequent to Sir George Grey assuming office). There were no such words added to the confidence motion by the proposer, there was no amendment proposed, nor any addition made when the motion was put from the chair, and it was carried without a dissentient voice. lam however prepared to admit that remarks were made during the proceedings which implied a wish that I had not joined in that vote against the Grey Government, and to quote the words I have before me, written by one who took a prominent part at the meeting, he says, " I did not believe in your vote to turn the Grey party out till they had time to get into harness, still there was no such expressions put to the meeting with the vote." Your correspondent, I fear, must have been talking the matter over with the correspondents of the other papers, and instead of giving your readers the words of the resolution which simply expressed the confidence of the meeting in their member, gave you his own impressions or those of his co-correspondents. I am sure your wish at all times to publish truthful reports will be sufficient reason for asking your insertion of the above explanation, I am, &c, rp . . _ , Wai. Gibbs. Totaranui, Feb. 6, 1878.
