A RELENTLESS AVENGER.

(From the Louisville Commercial ) William Newland, son of Richard Newland, an old and well known farmer of Washington county, in 1867, with his young wife and a child less than a year old, left hie home to settle in Kansas. In company went Charles Wilier and wife, and their foo, neighbors. When they renched Webster county, Missouri, Newland, his wife, and child were murdered under circumstances that led to the arrest of Chaileß Waller and wife, fche son having escape]. Some days after the tragedy lhe remains of Newland was found in the woods, and those of his wife were discovered in a ravine about six miles beyond. Tha remains of the child were never discovered, but bones were found which some of the citizeDs thought might be those of the child. Charles Waller was put upon trial for the murder, and found guilty, and in 1872 he expiated his crime on the gallows. His wife was also tried for being accessory to the murder, and was sentenced to three years' imprisonment in the Missouri penitentiary. Charles Wajler was always reticent about the murder, maintaining his innocence stoutly up (0 a short time before his execution. Then he admitted that he bad gone out hunting with Newland, and shot him in the woods. Upon his return he told his son that he had disposed of Newland, and they must dispose of the wife and child to cover up their tracks. Richard Newland, the father of the murdered man, determined that the sou Waller should also be brought to justice. For five yeara be had been searching, through detectives, to discover his whereabouts. His search was finally successful, the eon being found on a farm up in Minnesota. He was arrested aud taken to Webster county, Mo., some time ago, and recently the trial took place, and he confessed to manslaughter, and was sentenced to forty yearß in the penitentiary. One of the main facts which led to his conviction was the identification of the bedspread and otber articles belonging to fche murdered family. These articles were identified by Mr Newland as the property of his daughter-in-law. The father of fche murdered imn has apent large sums of money in ferreting out and bringing to justice the murderers.
