THE COMING SPORTS.

To toe Editor op the 'Evening Mail.' Sir— l should like to ask whether it is fair to the local amateurs of Nelson, of whom there are a great number in training, to allow professionals to compete in the various events at tbe forthcoming sports in connection with the Friendly Societies of Nelson. If it is permitted, is it likely that local amateurs can compete against them? I may safely say that there will be more competitors ou this occasion than there have been at any previous gathering. — I am, &c, Amateur.
