THE LEVY CONCERTS

The first of the series of three concerts ta be given by this company took/place in the ! Provincial Hall last night. The attendance ■ inside was miserably out .of keeping with the \ merits of the performance, but there was a j N splendid outside gathering, 'Which, consider- i Ing the reasonable charges made, was by no\ means creditable to the town. Mr Levy does not come here for criticism, it being universally allowed that he has passed the fiery ordeal. His performance is simply wonderful, and all that has been said and written about him fails to give an idea of his powers./ Last night he played three .pieces, each of % which was vociferously encored. His Alexis^ the opening piece, is a grand exhibition of instrumentation, but !sAul&..Robiu~GEay,!',,. and "The Last Rose of Summer" seemed "to " give the greatest satisfaction. < They weremarvels of sweetness; 1 Signor Giorza is like- • wise a great pianist, and his equal has never been heard here. "He" charmed "everybody, ■" and no one was prepared to hear such playing. Mrs Levy .is a fine singe, r r and what is more a natural and pteiaiing-bbW. to* fresh-*, ness and artistic execution she has not been-' excelled. "Miss pitta too t is an {excellent vocalist with a voiced of great'powerj and well cultirated. Signor Rosnati has been here . before, and seems actually to have improved. , Altogether the company; is ii?6r.thy 6t ralvthel patronage that Nelson can. bestow] and we trust to see the' : hall; crowded during their stay. We believe that' the ground will be closed to-fiight, and that the names! of those found inside' will be taken for publication. The programme for each; concert! may'-bcP obtained at Mr Stanton's, anianfentijre change will be made each* evening,— •except] as" n'tlie case of the grand old trio Dama Dnrden, announced for repetition — by special request.
