The following special telegrams appeared in the Post of Saturday. London (undated). General Skobeloff has captured another position, thus enabling the circle of investment round Plevna to be contracted — Mehemet Ali is collecting a strong force at Sophia for the relief of Plevna. Ostnan Pasha has;refused to surrender Plevna, on the grouud that he has not yet exhausted all his meaus of defence.— The capture of Kars was effected by means of a night surprise. Ou Saturday night 15,000 Russians made a sudden and unexpected assault, aud took the place by storm, thus on Sunday morning all the forts were in the undisputed possession of the .Russians.— Forty battalions of Tnrkg are retreating on Erezoum. The position of that place is hopeless; the Russians are in great force both in front and rear. The Turkish cause is collapsing.— Nicholson beat Blackmau in the sculling match.— The Russian progress continues, and the generals now propose marching ut oace on Constantinople. -—In an important speech on the present aspect of the Eastern question, Lord Derby denied that the Euphrates Valley line was the true route to India, aud asserted that England need feel no anxiety as to her communications while the Suez Canal demained open, aud while only Turkey was allowed to occupy Constantinople. — The conviction of the Rev Mr Tooth for infringment of the Public Worship Act has been quashed.— The Rev. Mr Mackonochie is being prosecuted for refusing to remove a statue of the Virgin, which had been erected in St. Alban's Church, Holburn. — The Pope's illness is still increasing in severity.— Gale, the femous pedestrian, has achieved the unprecedented feat of walking 4000 quarter-miles in 4000 consecutive ten -minutes periods. Several steamers are agound in the Suez Canal owing to its rapid siltiug up.— Wage and Higgius row on the Tyne in January next for the championship of England. — The Duke of Norfolk has married Lady Florence Hastings. — A collision has occurred on the froutier between the Servians and Turks, in which many were killed on both sides.
