Wellington, Wednesday. The House met at $-30 this afternoon. . In reply to Mr Henry Sir Gr. Grey stated that the Government had come to no determination yet in regard to the Agent-General-ship. The following new Bills were introduced: Waste Lands Board Continuance Bill (Mr Macandrew), Government Native Land Purchase Discontinuance Bill (Mr Sheehan). A long and irregular discussion as to whose fault it was that demauds for money for local purposes came before the House arose ou a motion by Mr Hodglginson to go into Committee in future for sinns on the Estimates similar to that asked for a heavy traffic bridge over the Oparariu River near Collie's Ford. The motion was agreed to on a division by 20 to 15. Mr Hodgkinson's motion to give five immigrants' cottage* and sections in Riverton as endowment to the Wallace and Ford Hospital, was agreed to. Mr Rowe's motion for £12,750 for public works at the Thames and Coromandel was being discussed when the dinner hour Thursday. Mr Burns moved the second reading of the Employment of Females 'Act Amendment Bill. Mr Stout moved that it be read a second .time that day six months. Sir G. Grey thought the Bill should be referred to a Committee, so that the employed might be heard as well as the employers. The Bill seemed to make serious and objectionable alterations '' in law, as it would allow night work. Tfrfi gill was opposed by Messrs Mandres, Joyce, Kollesion, Travers,!Gisborne, Johnstone, Macfarlane, and Wood, a^d supported ; by Messrs Murray, Reynolds, and Reid, Mr Burns, in reply, contended that he was acting on behalf of the employes, not of the employers. He asked leave to withdraw the Bill, but this was refused, and the aniendmefljb was carried on the voices, the Bill being shelved, The South Rakaia Jioad Board Bill was postponed, by consent, to next Wedneidaiy. The Gisborne Harbor Bill aud Waikato Pjjft and River Trust Eudowment Bill was read the t___r d ti,neThe Whangat'et ?ort Endowment Bill, Wyndham Pound Resepyg g'll, and Foxton Reserve Bill were read the seeon^ piaie, aud referred to the Waste Lands Committeei The Taranaki Roads and Bridges i Ordinance Amendment Bill v/as passed. Addresses werp agreed to iv committee for placing the following su.i#s on the Supplementary Estimates: —£2oo fo? iinproying the entrance to Martin's Bay; £500 for a road from the Maori Kaika to Taiaroa Head Lighthouse; £500 for a jetty in Catten's River. On Mr Woolcock's motion for £10,000 for a bridge between Greymouth and Cobden, Mr Macandrew- said it would be no use voting it as there was no tnouey. The motion to go into committee ws9 carried by 19 to 15, but in committeo the vote , war rejected by 22 to 18. : In Committee ou the Forest Trees Planting Encouragement Bill, a motion that the chairman l&iyg the chair was carried by 26 to 15. The Nelsou Rjfle Prize Act Amendment Bill was passed. The House rose at 1240 p.m. In the Legislative Council, Mr J.N. Wilson sy#_ sworn in and took his seat.
