Thb Spring Horticultural Show will take place to-morrow and Wednesday in the Pro--vincial Hall. The show of flowers, especially of roses, in which there will be greater competition than in any previous year, promised up to to-day to be exceedingly good, but the rain, so eagerly looked for by the farmers, which has been "falling to-day, is likely to injuriously affect them. Should the weather clear in time there is likely to be a large attendance of visitors, as well as a profuse display of exhibits, as in addition to residents in the town many are expected from the country, a special train having been laid on for the purpose, leaving Foxhill at six o clock*, and Nelson on the return afc ten. There will be music each evening, several amateurs having kindly volunteered their services. The attention of intending exhibitors is called to the rules, which, we are requested to state, will he strictly enforced, esnecially that which refers to the time for the receipt of exhibits.

The whole of the salmon ova, brought from California by the last mail have wifch a very few exceptions been hatched, and the pond in which they were placed is now full 0: young fish which afc the present stage of their existence have a most curious appearance. The little things are aboufc half to three quarters of an inch in length, their mast prominent feature being the eyes, which protrude considerably from the head. Immediately below fche head a pink sac about the size of a pea is attached to the fish, and this is filled with au oily substance, upon which they subsist between three and four weeks, when the bag drops off, and the young fry will then be fit for removing. It may be interesting to our readers to learn how the eggs were brought in such excellent condition so long a distance. They were placed (50,000 in all) in a box in eight layers, with a small quantity of moss between each. Afc fche top were perforated boards on which was placed a layer of ice, above which were two miniature mattresses filled with saw dusfc, a wooden lid fastening down on the whole. This box was placed inside another six inches larger than itself in length, depth, and breadth, the interstice at each side, at the top, and the bottom heing filled with charcoal. The ice on the top slowly melted, and ,fche water trickled through the perforations in the boards, saturating the moss in which the eggs were placed, and keeping them damp and cool. A supply of ice waa sent in another case carefully prepared for the occasion, and from this the supply in the ova box was renewed when required, though this could not have been very frequently, as there was a good stock of ice left when the boxes reached here. The experiment having proved ao complete a success, and at a comparatively small cost (not exceeding £500) it is to be hoped that the Government will arrange for shipments to be made for at least two years more, by which time the stocking of the rivers in which the ova are placed with so desirable ard marketable a fish as the salmon will be ensured. When once the fish are established in the colony the ova can easily be obtained for the purpose of stocking every river in New Zealand that is adapted to the salmon. A cricket match played on Saturday between the College and Richmond clubs terminated in a victory for the former, who won in one innings with 47 runs to spare, the scores being:— College, Ist inning 3, 87; Richmond, lat innings, 17; second innings, AO.

The knight of the rueful countenance was probably a victim of the depress-on, irritability and causeless apprehension which are symptomatic o_ confirmed dyspepsia. There are many such knights whose days are undoubtedly shortened by the misery of body and mind produced by that harrassing disease. Chronic indigestion, as well as nervous debility, urinary troubles, and rheumatic affections are easily remedied by Udolpho Wolfe's Schibdam Arosiatic SCHNAPP3.--Advt.
