CORONER'S INQUEST.

An inquest was held at Stoke on Saturday evening on the body of James Dinely Majorihanks who met with his death that afternoon by falling from the box seat of a cab. The accident was described as follows by Amos Harling, cab driver:—" I was engaged by Mr Majoribanks about two o'clock this afternoon; he asked me to drive him home. He got inside the cab, and I drove off. On the top of the College Hill he got over the back of the driving seat, and sat by me. Before we reached the Hospital, he said:—' Let me have a drive; it will help to pass away the time.' He took the driving seat, reins, and whip. He drove steadily from the Hospital, putting the break on going down hill; at the foot of the hill he took his foot off the break, and I pulled it up. When opposite Mr Jones' house he was reaching over to whip the horse, when he fell offi the seat head foremost. I stopped the horse aa soon as I could get hold of the reins, and went to his assistance. A gentleman was by him when I got to him, and when we raised him up he said, 'Mind my arm.' We put him into the trap, and I drove him to the toll-gate, where Mrs Jackson bathed his head and bandaged it. Mrs Jackson then got into the trap and supported him while we came on here. He appeared sensible, but said he would not get out of the trap. I carried him into the house, placed him on the bed, and then drove Mrs Marsden into town for Dr Farreile." Dr Farreile stated that death was caused by the rupture of a blood vessel in the brain, and a verdict of accidental death was returned.
