MELBOURNE CUP. Mblboubne, Nov. 6. There was an immense attendance at the races to-day, all parts of the course being crowded. A steady rain set in before the first race. The three Governors were present. Maiden Plate— Talk Vale (? Tocal), 1; Stratuero, 2; Explosion, 3. Won by a short head. Time, 2 nuns 42f sees. Railway Stakes -Viscount, 1; Ashantee, 2; Glenburn, 3. Won by two lengths. Time, 2 uiins 17 sees. Kensington Stakes— Warlock, lj Royal Oak, 2; Brona, 3. Time, 1 min 5^ sees. Melbourne Cdp— A sweepstakes of 20 sovs. each, 10ft., or 5 if declared, with 500 added. The second horse to receive 50 sovs., and the third 20 sovs. out of the stakes. Two miles. Entries closed with 116 nominations. Forty-two accepted.— Chester, 1; Savanaka, 2 ; Vagabond, 3. This was a splendid race, won close on the winning post by a bare half length. Vagabond was seven lengths behind. Frst King fell and put out Savanaka. Woodlauds was sixth. Time, 3 mins 33£ sees. Sydney, Tuesday. Mr Robertson was elected by two electorates, yesterday. The Lyeetnoon'g damages are estimated at £7000. She is being refitted.
