At Plevna the Russian aud Roumanian corps are close to the first Turkish parallel. The Turks revictualled Plevna on Sept. 23rd, sending twenty battalions of infaufcry, two field batteries, aud a regiment of cavalry into the works. The Russian losses before Plevna to Sept. 24th were 2500 killed and wounded. On September 12th the Russians attacked Plevna, and carried two detached redoubts and the central Gravica redoubt, after great carnage. Osman Pasha drove out General Skobeloff, out-flanking the redoubts after they had been occupied 24 hours. Skoheloff s command was cut to pieces, and reinforcements were refused to him. Osman failed to retake the Gravica redoubt in a subsequent night attack in force. The Roumanians were repulsed with slaughter in an assault on. the second Gravitza redoubt. Since these actions there has been no fighting before Plevna, All ia qaiet in Shipka Pass. Mehemet AH, commanding tha eastern Bulgarian army advanced all along the line on Sept. 20. In the fihting on that day and the 21st the Turks failed at all points, and fell back to their former position beyond the Loni. A large army is collecting at Orchanie for the relief of Plevna. There was heavy fighting in Armenia from the 2nd to the 4th of October inclusive, between the Grand Dnke Nicholas and Muhktar Pasha. The Russians failed in their object to cut off Muhktar from hia base. The losses on both sides were over 1000. The Russians admit their loss since the commencement to the close of September to have been 52,000 killed and wounded. The Montenegrins are everywhere victorious in Hezegovina, half of which they occupy. An attack by them on the Albanian frontier failed Servia and Greece are preparing for war with Turkey. Trade in England aud America is reviving* There have been numerous failures in Savings Banks and extensive frauds in America. War with Mexico is imminent, and hostilities may begin at any moment on the Mexican borders owing to the encroachments and lawlessness of the Mexican bauds. There was a severe storm on the Atlantic coast on October 4th, resulting in wrecks and serious destruction of property. A special session of Congress meets on the 15 1 a to make appropriations for the army. The following was the state of the Liverpool markets on October 9th: — Breadstuff^, firm; wheat, 12s 5d to 12s 9d for Californian wheat. The receipts for the past three days were 28,000 quarters, including 19,000 of American. The Times says since tha beginning of the year England imported twenty-three millions sterling worth of wheat against eighteen millions in the last year. Beslin, October 9. The weekly statement of the Imperial Bank of Germany shows a decrease of 9J million marks.
