[PRESS AGENCY.] Ohristchurch, Friday. At a meeting of the Board of Education, a letter was resd from the Rev Father Binsfield, giving the names of six Catholic children who said they had been caned by the Master of the Loburn School for not doing Bible lessons. In some cases this is said to have been doue after the parents had given notice that their children were not to take part in the lessons. The Board has ordered a full enquiry into the matter. Tell Tale was accidentally omitted from the list of acceptors for the Free Handicap. Chancellor did not accept. Oamarc, Friday. The flour and breadstuffs market is still very dull, flour continuing to exhibit a downward tendency, and there being no transactions in grain. Wheat, 5s 9d to 6s ; oats, 2s 9d to 3s; barley, none; flour, £16 to £16 10s; oatmeal, £17; pollard £5 13s; bran, £3 10s. The annual show of the Northern Agricultural and Pastoral Association, to be held on Thursday and Friday, the 15th and 16th iast., promises to be a great success. Already 945 entries have been received, against 727 last year. It is expected the entries will reach lGi<o. The amount collected up to the present time for the Indian Famine Fund is £432. Ddnedin, Saturday. The total amount received here up to the present date for the Indian Famine Relief fund is £1795 7a 6d. The Opera Company has arrived. Produce quotations are as follows :~ Wheat, 6s 9d to 7s; oats, 3s to 3s 3d; barley, 3s to 4s 6d; flour, £16 to £17 10s; hay, £5; oatmeal, £17; potatoes, £3 10s; prime beef, 30s f lOjffis; mutton, 27s 6d. Mr Bradshaw reports Bank of New Zealand shares, £22 2s 6d; Colonial Bank, £2 9s ; Natioual Bank, £3 8s 6d; New Zealand Insurance, £4 10s; South British, JE3 18s; Standard, £1 2s; National, £1 13; Union, 12s 6d; New Zealand Loan and Mercantils, £5 5s old issue, £5 lls new issue; Otago and Southland Investment, £1 10s; New Zealand Shipping £3 15s; Union Steamship, £1. The Harbor Board stales that there are now eighteen feet of water on the bar at low water. Auckland, Thursday. Henry S. Meyers has been arrested on the charge of not fully and truly disclosing his estate to the Trustee in Bankruptcy. Mr Bucklaud reports fat sheep plentiful, 15s to 15s 6d; lambs, 7s 6d to 15s. Fat cattle, 10s lower; dairy cows £6 to £8 10s; heifers, £4 to £4 10s. Share market. — Bank of New Zealand, £22 5s ; Colonial, 47s 6d ; National 69s 6d ; National Insurance, 30s 6d ; Union 12s 6d ; South British sellers, 78s ; Standard, 23s ; Loan, £5 10s ; Loan and and Investment, 45s ; Moanatiri, 67s sd ; Alburnia, 67s 6d. Auckland flour is reduced to £19. The creditors of Niccol have refused the offc r of 5s in the pound. Napier, Friday. The prospectus of the Hawkes Bay Fire Insurance Company was issued to-day. Capital, £100,000, in 20,000, shares of £5 each; £1 only to be called up, in six instalments, of which 5s will ba on application and 5s on allotment, the remaining los in four further calls of 2s 6d each at intervals of three months. The provisional directors include the Hon. H. R. Russell, Captain Russell, Messrs. J. D. Ormond, Sutton, and a number of other influential names.
